THE JOY OF A SPACE

Our office is a place of joy, rest, and creativity.

In the 1930s, our office building wasn't sectioned off into loft spaces like it is today. Each floor was 25,000 sq ft, and all four floors were garment factories. Whenever I see the holes in the wooden floors where tables and machines used to be bolted down, I am grateful to know this backstory.
I love the humming of sewing machines and the laughter of our seamstresses in Nepal. It's music I long to harmonize with soon. Perhaps knowing that the floors I stand on every day at work used to vibrate the same sounds is comforting to me.
Until I return to Nepal, I am joyful to be in this beautiful space in Brooklyn New York for my current assignment of the interns. It's peaceful, bright, and the people who enter make it special.
Plus the framed photographs of our shop in Nepal always make me smile:

DELEGATION

My word of the year has been 'delegate' and I'm doing that full time with our in-person interns. It's incredible how much we're accomplishing. Sometimes it's not about achieving, but the time we're spending together. I enjoy teaching and one-on-one conversing. I think the interns have found me to be more than a supervisor, but a real mentor.
Lately I don't get solo work time for tasks that require me to focus for a few hours at a time. I'd like to find space for these things. What creeps into my mind is “Ah, I still really need to do that really important thing”
In my mind, it's easy to assume if I don't get X and Y done before the end of this month, then Z down the road isn't going to happen. I remember that each day I've been doing what God has put in front of me. I am trusting His timing in everything, and trusting my limitations in His hands.
If you see a dress or anything on our website next week that would bring you joy to wear, we'd appreciate your order! Thank you for allowing me to do this.

A few more photos of our loft taken by our friend Grace Copeland.
