OUR FIRST ART EXHIBIT

Two years ago, I shared about Elegantees in a New York City apartment to a small group of people. That evening, a woman named Adriana approached me to tell my story through art and photographs. She happened to be the Justice and Mercy Coordinator at Redeemer church, so we've become friends since.

In my best Spongebob narrator voice, we fast-forward to: two years later….

THE EXHIBIT UNVEILS TONIGHT

This is my first ever art gallery, and I'm in awe of it to be honest. Throughout all my years of being a student, I took at least one kind of art class each year, and art was my favorite subject. Yet, I never had any of my work installed in a gallery with a reception or anything, let alone in New York City! Mom, I know you're reading this, so I guess “I made it” as an artist?
I can't take the credit for this though. Our media manager in Nepal, Prabin Kumar Karki, took the photos, and some others were involved in the curation of the visuals. The most impressive thing about this gallery though is the photographs of our sisters in Nepal. When I saw them for the first time in large scale, I felt awe and gratitude for them. Their lives, stories, and the love they put into making our clothing is captured in a moment of joy.
I loved the process of piecing together sketches, photographs, and fabric remnants into a story that we're unveiling tonight. The only thing left to do is figure out what to wear to tonight's reception! I've got Elegantees in my closet though, so I'm not worried.
