NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE
In case you missed, it we launched new tees earlier this week.
I've been learning to not idolize the times we were at the top of the mountain. There's many highs and lows in life, but can we detach our identity from them in order to stay in the race?
THE VALLEY
The past few years have been shocking to many Millennial brands like ours. The buyers have changed because their budgets have. The entrepreneurs have not changed though, and that's a problem too. The strategies that worked 5 years ago are flops today.
Additionally, consumer data shows that having a good cause is not as big of a deal as it was 10 years ago. We're figuring out how to put other “selling points” at the forefront to keep up with the leading values of today.
Many Millennial brand founders are being led elsewhere. That's okay because our identities are not wrapped up in our business. I believe for Elegantees though, there will be a harvest to come, so it's not right to give up.
Believing for the harvest is why I am working toward an office space. Interns can bring a fresh approach into strategies.
STRONG FOUNDATION
To build a strong foundation, I'll need to shoulder the leadership role with others who also have a servant heart. Something incredible regarding this happened this week over lunch with one of our associates. She believes in the office so much that she commited to be one of our leaders, and on a volunteer basis too!
I'm deeply thankful for her believing in this. Also, two women said they'd like to contribute to the rent to help support this next step.
Expensing an office space is something we might be able to afford on our own, but it's a big might when you look at our financials. One of my character flaws is when I have excess financial pressure, it's difficult for me to be the leader I should be. Last weekend, I got on my knees, because I have a big request.
Are you ready to hear what I prayed for?
RENT FREE
I boldly asked for a rent free office to get us started. It seems like a big ask because a basic room without windows won't cut it. It needs to be in an area that is bustling for creativity, and also sundrenched for good lighting.
I'm sharing this with you because one of you could be connected to building in the Garment District looking for a tax write-off (our 501c3 is underway).
Realistically though, we'll probably end up in Brooklyn so we can pay a third of what it would cost in the Garment District. I could try to get that crowd funded.
Being in the New York fashion industry for 20 years, I'm at the point where I want to give more than receive. Every day, I think of how I can better mentor the next generation and give them more opportunity to be a light in the darkness.
I'd love to give these college students the hope that I needed when I was a fashion design student myself. At the same time, it's thrilling to realize that all their collaborations could then result in hiring more survivors.
Thank you for reading this far and your support. I believe we can do this!
