A POWERFUL LETTER

This week's update is from a customer who grew up in Nepal, and moved to the States twenty years ago. I asked her permission to share it because her heart's passion moved me to tears. These are the reasons we do this work.

THE PLIGHT OF WOMEN

It has always felt so heavy to me. On one of my visits, I went to the far district of Humla, a place where traffickers can easily convince women of their need for a better life. I sat at a fire with women in a village that was incredibly poor. I didn't realize until (a man scolded me) later that these women were outside because they were on their period. They aren't allowed indoors for the duration of their menses, and this includes during the harshness of winter. I was heartbroken, especially at hearing they would get attacked by wild animals at times.

I met another beautiful and strong girl of 16 who had just given birth (in a stable) after 3 days of labor. I was humbled and changed by these experiences and the knowledge of the desperation of the women in Nepal.

CLOTHING INDUSTRY

I've had a growing discomfort with the horrific ways that those who work in the clothing industry are treated overseas. I was reminded again of this on a recent missions trip to Madagascar with my family. It is shameful how Western companies can hide the dishonorable and undignified ways they do business overseas.

My sister introduced me to your company last year, but it wasn't until more recently that I really took notice. When I got my first order with the note you send, I was finally fully convinced to get off the train of fast, cheap fashion. I choose to be more honoring of God and the people made in his image with the ways I spend money and what I choose to support; in all areas of life.

RESTORING LIVES

So what I want to say is that your work, your company, your efforts, have all been used. I am so thankful for what you are doing, for the way you are bringing goodness to women who have been broken and wounded by the cruel and hellish ways of this world. This morning I was reading Psalm 82 and verses 3-4 were especially meaningful along the lines of what I have been sharing:

"Defend the weak and the fatherless;

uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.

Rescue the weak and the needy;

deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

I praise God for all the ways he is using your company to bring these verses into reality right now.
