SHOP BY COLOR SEASON
A few years ago, women across America became intrigued to learn which colors thrive most on them. Since then, I've seen questions come up asking if a certain color is warm or cool leaning, and what the undertones are. I couldn't answer them!
BECOMING A STUDENT AGAIN
A pain point of shopping online is not being able to see the color in real life. I have caught onto this many years ago when a customer returned a shirt because the color isn't what she expected. I looked at the color on the website and agree with her. I knew we had to get better.
Then we shot everything in a studio with natural light and white backdrops. The color was spot on, but something was missing. Lifestyle photography is important to make a brand relatable and artistic. Could we do it and get the color right?
This year, I decided to become a student again and learn how to shoot outside with accuracy. I learned that shooting too early in the morning makes everything more blue. Green grass is in the frame, especially if sunny, reflects a green cast. Additionally, colors will look different on different skin, hair, and whatever is in the background. I've loved learning it. I still don't get it every time, but it's definitely better!
For the photos we do get perfectly, different screens will vary anyway. I've been chatting with an Elegantees supporter who is very knowledgeable in the color theory. Our conversations have led to a new direction.
SHOP BY COLOR SEASON
She looked at all recent colors on our website in real life for a more accurate analysis than what's on a screen. We've sorted these to show you what is in stock of each season:
Spring Summer Autumn Winter
If you know about color seasons, you see these are broad and not into subseasons. You also know that you can thrive in sister seasons too. If you're a Spring, then Autumn can be lovely on you too. So we provided more info about each color with descriptions on each product page. We put them in italic to help them stand out.
For example, our Chocolate Torte color is a major wow on some Springs and some Autumns. You will find clarification in the description for Chocolate Torte: This color is a very deep, rich neutral-warm brown, near espresso.
MY COLOR OPINION
If you have gotten your colors draped before, use it as a tool, not a rule.
There are some colors in my palette that just don't feel like 'me,' and I feel significantly prettier in colors in my sister season. My skin doesn't thrive the most in them, but it's still on a good color on me.
The main benefit of knowing what is good for my palette is learning about the undertones that compete way too hard with my features. I will avoid those, but if any color simply gives me joy, I believe that the joy is what makes me beautiful anyway!
We hope that this new tool will be helpful to you. It will become a permanent feature on our site as soon as we update the homepage.
